His Toy Store is Hope for New York’s Christmas outreach to local families in need.
Each year, HFNY partners with their affiliates and churches to set up pop-up toy stores across New York City and invite families to shop for new toys at no cost. Through this program, families often make a lasting connection to local churches and HFNY affiliate organizations, where they can find year-round support. Join Hope for New York’s Christmas outreach to families in need across our city.
This year, Hope for New York is hosting its biggest His Toy Store outreach yet. Their goal is to provide 4,060 toys for 1,960 families and they rely 100 percent on donations to make sure stores are stocked with toys like action figures, stuffed animals, baby dolls, and soccer balls.
That’s where you come in, Trinity! A number of you will be serving in December at the His Toy Store at The Salvation Army Temple (540 Lenox Ave at 137th Street), but we also want to help them stock these stores with toys. A $25 donation will provide a brand new toy for a child in a family with limited financial resources, $75 will provide toys for a family, and $250 will provide toys for a group of neighbors. Visit hfny.org/hts by November 27 to support this outreach!
His Toy Store
- Empowers parents with limited resources to Christmas shop for their children at no cost, and with the opportunity to donate to the affiliate and/or church for the toys they receive.
- Offers affiliates an opportunity to expand their outreach into the communities they serve, increasing their ability to connect with and resource families year-round.
- Offers church partners an opportunity to connect with their neighbors in need, making available to those neighbors a year-round spiritual family.
- Enables volunteers to come alongside our affiliates to meet, interact, and serve families at Christmas.
What kind of toys will my donation purchase?
Your donation will purchase brand-new toys to stock our toy stores. We work with our affiliates to determine what the families they serve are excited about giving to their kids, so we’ll offer toys for babies, toddlers, and school-aged boys and girls. Think action figures, dolls, baby toys, jewelry and craft kits, educational games, builder sets, dress-up clothes, and cars and trucks.
Who are the families who will receive these toys?
The parents who will shop at our stores include the working poor in low-income neighborhoods, formerly incarcerated individuals reconnecting with their families, and moms and dads in residential recovery programs. For many of them, His Toy Store is the only opportunity they have to provide gifts for their children.
We need volunteers
We are looking for volunteers to participate in helping families in need receive toys for their children for Christmas. We need volunteers to unload toys on Friday, December 8, from 7-9pm and volunteers to help run the store on Saturday, December 9, from 9am-1pm (approximately). The event is at The Salvation Army Temple 540 Lenox Ave at 137th Street. Please contact Genille at genillem@gmail.com to volunteer for either date!
