Dear Trinity Family,
I want to personally let you know that, in response to the increasing risk posed by the COVID-19 virus, the Elders at Trinity have made the difficult decision to not hold our usual Sunday morning service and instead ask everyone to join us for an online message on 3/15 and 3/22. The church will not be open on Sunday morning, so no small groups will meet on Sundays either, but weekly groups may still meet during the week.
As a church we have been meditating on Wisdom: the ability to both know what is right, and to take action on that knowledge. As the Elders of this church, we have wrestled with what is best or “right” in this situation. This is a quickly developing and very complex situation. Public gathering spaces, such as museums, schools, and churches in our city are receiving guidance from our civic leaders to limit possible exposure to this illness. We want to be clear that we are NOT aware of anyone testing positive for COVID-19 from our community. And while we are not legally required to change our Sunday worship, the issue becomes what we should do as opposed to what we have to do.
This is undoubtedly a disruption in our church. It is a disruption in our city and in our lives. But I also believe that when people’s worlds are disrupted, they are open to new things. Even spiritual things. Please pray with us that we will care well for those who call Trinity home, and that we will be ready for the opportunity to invite those who are looking to make heaven their eternal home.
Please join us online for the following two Sundays at 9:30am on our YouTube channel. This is a situation where we need to spend more time in God’s Word and more time in prayer, not less.
We also want to encourage you to continue in your generous, intentional, and joy-filled giving as we approach the end of our fiscal year. You can give online here or by mailing a check to Trinity Baptist Church, 250 East 61st Street, NY, NY 10065.
May you experience a peace that passes understanding and may that peace radiate to those around you as a testimony of God’s work in your life.
Brian, on behalf of the Trinity Elders
