In July 2011, a team from Trinity continued to build upon the relationships that were established in previous years. Team Trinity, serving alongside Wellars, the recipient family and community members, helped build a home in Nyamagabe. Wellars, his wife and three kids, a member of the Twa community, previously lived in a grass-thatched hut. The team spent 3 days rolling and stomping in mud, mud plastering the walls, and having fun with the children at the build-site. Another day was spent visiting with the families, including Beatrice and her grandson Ernest, (2010 home recipient) who received homes that Trinity team members helped construct. The team also unexpectedly met Alex, one of the early home recipients. When Trinity first met Alex, he was a teenager, who lost his parents and was the head of the household to his brother and sister. Alex is now married and lives with his wife in a new home. He also operates a motorbike/taxi service. The home Trinity help build houses his family members. Building upon Trinity’s Global ALPHA Trainings (GATs) in 2010, Team Trinity conducted a two-day training at Africa New Life’s Dream Center in Kigali for approximately 75 lay leaders and another two-day ALPHA training for approximately 60 pastors and church leaders in the city of Butare. An added element of the 2011 ALPHA training was a needs assessment of church leaders. An additional highlight of the trip was the opportunity to visit with Trinity’s sponsored children through World Vision.
